move off truenas #29

storytime

  • you cannot add the docker group to arbitrary users
  • "ok but giving that permission is effectively giving root"
  • okay but like at least let me namespace it to a user
  • result: i have configured some places to run as the root user since i can't confgure things normally

i think in addition to random limits existing in truenas, i am learning most of the underlying technologies

steps

  • learn how zfs config works
    • snapshots
  • learn how docker compose config works
  • learn how samba file shares work (i can just use copyparty??)
  • learn how sshd can be configured
  • learn how i can configure system alerts to go to email
  • learn how to make a couple pretty graphs (maybe by #11)

then i can strip down to a simple nixos server
